Here are the key biblical principles for raising godly children.

Prioritise Family Devotion

  • Deuteronomy 6:6-7 - "Impress [God's commands] on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up."

  • Make regular family Bible reading, prayer, and discussion a priority to instil faith.

Model Godly Character

  • Proverbs 20:11 - "Even a child is known by his actions, by whether his conduct is pure and right."

  • Children learn more from your example than your words. Model Christ-like character, integrity, and devotion.

Discipline with Love

  • Ephesians 6:4 - "Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord."

  • Discipline should be rooted in teaching, not punishment. Correct with patience, wisdom and a heart of love.

Teach Right from Wrong

  • Proverbs 22:6 - "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart from it."

  • Help children develop a biblical understanding of morality, sin, and the need for a Saviour.

Cultivate Relationship

  • Psalm 127:3 - "Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him."

  • Invest quality time to nurture strong, loving bonds. Children are a precious gift, not a burden.

Rely on God's Strength

  • Isaiah 40:11 - "He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young."

  • Parenting is a high calling - rely on God's wisdom, grace and power rather than your own.
