Balancing the demands of parenting and work is no small feat. As a mother, wife, and now author, each day presents its own mix of challenges and quiet wins. I recently came across a quote from the book The Mother Of All Jobs that perfectly summed it up:
Balancing parenting and work is a journey.
Those words captured what I’ve been living out behind the scenes while writing my new children’s book, I AM: Discovering My Identity in Christ.
The Inspiration Behind I AM
This book is more than just pages and illustrations. It’s a reflection of my own journey—of wanting my children (and yours!) to know who they are in Christ, and to be rooted in biblical truth from a young age. As I wrote affirmation after affirmation, I was reminded of who I am too. The process became deeply personal.
There were many moments when I was typing with a baby on my hip, or scribbling notes during nap time. Every sentence, every Scripture, was prayed over in the midst of my everyday life.
Lessons from The Mother Of All Jobs
That book reminded me that I’m not alone in this. Here are a few lessons it helped solidify:
🟡 Prioritise What Matters Most:
Deadlines can wait—family comes first. My children won’t always need me in the same way they do now, and I want to be present.
🟡 Embrace Flexibility:
Some days, the words flow. Other days, they don’t. I’ve learned to write in the margins and give myself grace when plans change.
🟡 Seek Support:
I don’t do this alone. My husband, friends, and family have carried me in countless ways—from watching the kids to offering encouragement when I wanted to quit.
My Personal Strategies for Balance
I don’t have it all figured out. But these are some rhythms that have helped me stay grounded and joyful:
🕘 Set Boundaries:
I try not to mix work and family time. When I’m writing, I write. When I’m with my kids, I’m with them. No guilt either way.
📅 Create a Loose Schedule:
I block out time for writing, time for rest, and time for family. Not every block is perfect, but it keeps me anchored.
🕊️ Practice Self-Care:
Prayer, exercise, journaling, and a moment to breathe make a big difference. A healthy mum creates a healthy atmosphere.
👨👩👧👦 Involve the Family:
I share milestones with my kids—“Mummy finished another chapter!” They’re part of the journey, and that makes it sweeter.
Why I Keep Going
Writing I AM: Discovering My Identity in Christ reminded me of the power of calling, even in the chaos. Every late-night writing session, every whispered prayer of “Lord, help me finish this”—it’s all worth it if even one child learns who they are in Jesus.
If you’re in a season of juggling it all, know this: you’re not failing. You’re showing up, seed by seed, day by day.
God sees your faithfulness—and He’s using it.
Let’s keep building homes and writing truths that point to Christ—one messy, beautiful day at a time.
